I use to work for a very well known global company and every 4 years they held a World Cup. I was picked to play for the GB team at the tournament in Hungary and we managed to work our way to the semis where we played against Brazil who had amongst their ranks Zico. He was 39/40 at the time and I was given the task of marking him. I was substituted at half time which tells you how well I did, he completely tore me a new one.
They subsequently won the final and at the awards dinner he came up to me and gave me his tracksuit top. He smiled at me and said “ yours for trying “.
I still have it, a horrible green diadora tracksuit top with his signature on.
Before any one asks, he was the brands ambassador in Brazil.

In the 70's when I lived in Birmingham one of the Dad's of one of the kids at my school was Ron Wylie - Villa coach and at the school summer fete he'd bring along a bunch of players - so I had a kick about with the likes of John Gidman, Ray Graydon, Dennis Mortimer and Brian Little. A couple of years later he went to work at Coventry City with Joe Mercer and I'm sure that Joe Mercer rocked up when he was England Caretaker manager but can't remember what players came along...
Anyway the kids inc me would have a kick about with the players and then they'd have a formal 5-a-side game versus the dads. My brother played for the Dads in the games against the Team from Villa...

Played against Duncan Pratt, Malcolm Waldren Paul Wimbleton, not the most well known footballers, but all whist at Portsmouth Youths! There were probably a lot more, but I can't remember!

John Hollins - it was a fathers v sons match. He was playing for Arsenal at the time and, as you would expect, he was great both on / off the pitch.

He was a beast.
Chatted to him, he was a copper at the time.

Was rubbish at football
But played cricket with and against John Salako for kent schools
and against Steve Gritt, Andy Jones and a few other Charlton players as they played for Downham and Bellingham CC back in the day.

Shit loads of semi pro boys that were allowed to play on Sundays back in the day.
Don't play vets but look after the side that have been with since 1990... couple of years ago one of the teams when we was in the Prem they had 5 players (Garry Nelson, John Taylor, Ade Owers and a couple of others) with nigh on 2000+ league appearances and over 300 league goals in their team... oh we stuffed them 7-2
My mate worked with Steve Potts for a bit on the sherberts... tried to get him over and he was up for it ... apparently his missus put a block on it.
Main big dog in Vets footy round our way is Jude Bellingham's old man... he can play a bit.

Marked Frank McAvennie at a corner at those fans tournaments at Upton Park. He leapt like a salmon and headed home. Actually he just stood there and nodded it in. No idea whose decision it was to allow me at 5 feet 6 to mark McAvennie at a corner, what could go wrong!!

Played with Keith Day (Colchester & Orient) when I was 15/16, he made it, I didn't.
Played against Bobby Barnes at school and had a kick about with Keith Robson (who was pissed) at Rainham FC many moons ago.
